Obra en Construcción / Brick Laying

Il Ballo del Mattone (El Baile del Ladrillo) origino en Italia en los años sesenta y fue popularizado por la pelirroja Rita Pavone. Los movimientos de esta danza eran muy similares a los del Twist, por lo tanto no tenías que ser Rodolfo Nureyev para bailarlo. La letra de la canción también era bastante interesante y decía:

No seas tan celoso si con los otros
bailo el Twist.
No te pongas tan furioso
si con los otros
bailo el Rock.
Contigo…Contigo…Contigo
que eres mi pasión,
yo bailo...
El Baile Del Ladrillo...

Il Ballo del Mattone ( The Brick's Dance) originated in Italy in the early sixties and was popularised by Red Haired Teenage Idol Rita Pavone. The dance movements were very similar to those of the Twist, so you didn't have to be Rudolph Nureyev to dance it. The lyrics were very interesting also and went something like this:

"Don't be so jealous if with others I dance Twist,
Don't be too angry if with others I dance Rock.
With you...With you...With you...
Who are my passion,
I'll dance the dance of the brick"

And so on and so forth...

Malambo

El "Malambo" a pesar de su nombre, que como "Mondongo" pareciera ser algo africano, es una danza zapateada originaria de las pampas Argentinas. Su origen es desconocido pero no es imposible que sea una derivación del popular baile de San Vito o la Tarantela, solo que en lugar de epilepsia o tarántulas sirva para espantar piojos o a las hormigas coloradas, que pican más.
Si bien originalmente era una danza para hombres solos, hoy en día los franceses, que tienen pocas ideas pero todas fijas, la han convertido en una danza de "discotheque"...Y si no me crees, oí el Malambo Techno de "Gotan Project" y ¡vas a ver!

The "Malambo" is a dance originated in the Argentinean Pampas. It is meant to be danced by men only. The Malambo is a rather robust and rythmic "baile", danced with only the legs, no other body movements are allowed. A bit like the Irish Riverdance style of kicking, or the action of killing ants in a Picnic. It was originally danced by gauchos but nowadays the French, who got few ideas but all fixed, have turned it into a Disco dance (Listen to "Gotan Project" version if you don't believe me)

Dancing in the dark

La Lambada es originaria de Bolivia pero gracias a Dios los Brasileños la popularizaron. Los Bolivianos son medio severos, e imaginate el olor a coca cuando te pasan la lengua por la jeta!
Le dedico este dibujo a Ceu D'Elia, que tenía una "Escola de Lambada y Kathakali" aquí en Londres.

Lambada is originary from Bolivia but the Brazilians popularised it, and thank God for that, because Bolivians are quite dour and the smell of coca leaves would have been unbearable when licking each other faces (Dont forget that "Lambada" means "Lick" in Portuguese)
I dedicate this picture to Ceu D'Elia, who had a "Escola de Lambada and Kathakali" here in London.

Incorrección Política / Political Incorrection

Aquí empiezo una serie de imágenes culturales bajo el título "Danzas del Mundo". En esta escena vemos un grupo de Joteros entregados al éxtasis de la danza. Siendo Aragoneses, es muy probable que Luis Buñuel y Francisco de Goya se hubieran dedicado a esta danza con entusiasmo. Lo que si es seguro es que no la deben oído pues ambos eran sordos.
Es tradicional alentar a los bailarines gritándoles "Cojonudo, Macho!"... Si quisieses vos podrías gritarle eso al monitor de tu computadora para alentar al dibujante.

With this picture I start the cutural series: "Dances of the World"... You can see here a scene of "Jota" dancing. The "Jota" is a tradicional dance from the region of Aragon, in Spain. I'd like to imagine the painter Francisco de Goya y Lucientes and the surrealist filmaker Luis Bunuel, who were from Aragon, used to dance it all the time. But surely they must have had difficulties hearing it because both were profoundly deaf.
