En Octubre de 1927 Dmitri Shostakóvich apostó y ganó 100 rublos al director de orquesta Nilolai Malko de ser capaz de realizar una versión orquestal de la pieza en una hora, habiéndola oído sólo una vez, lo cual hizo en cuarenta y cinco minutos. La estrenó en Moscú el 25 de noviembre de 1928 con el título de Tahití Trot, y acabó incluyéndola en su ballet La Edad de oro.

In October 1927, the conductor Nikolai Malko challenged Dmitri Shostakovich to do an arrangement of a piece in one hour after only one hearing of a Gramophone recording, for a bet that pocketed him 100 Roubles. He did it in 45 minutes. His "Tea for Two" arrangement, Opus 16, was first performed on 25 November 1928. It was incorporated into Tahiti Trot from his ballet The Golden Age first performed in 1929.
