Dibujantes olvidados / Forgotten artists:
Douglas "Chalkie Dog" Briggs
"Chalkie Dog" painted his first graffiti in the nursery at the age of 16 months, using his own excrement. At twelve he was expelled from school for drawing obscene pictures in the headmaster's office walls. At sixteen he was sent to borstal for repeatedly defacing underground trains in the Northern Line. At eighteen painted a celebrated graffiti of Father Christmas having sex with Gordon Brown, the then British chancellor of the Exchequer. Even if he painted this anonymously, it had great popular acclaim. The media started to write about his graffiti work in the East End of London. The Policeman blowing condoms for children and David Beckham wearing a brassiere were two great favourites. Lots of postcards with these pictures were printed and sold. The Saatchi's Gallery organised an exhibition of Chalkie's work. His real identity was never revealed and the public will never know who is the man who now lies in a coma in hospital having been found under a ladder with a bag of aerosol cans in Shoreditch.
